Black Capped

Chickadee

4"W x 2"H

The Maine State Bird

The brave and cheerful Chickadee

is our faithful friend during the long Maine winters.

Cardinal

2"W x 5.5"H

The Cardinal is a welcome visitor at Maine birdfeeders, and a much loved bird all over the Eastern United States. Their song and brilliant color are breathtakingly beautiful.

Swan

4"W x 3.75"H

The lovely swans, North America's largest water birds, were once close to extinction, but are now making a wonderful comeback

As pure white swans glide smoothly, almost suspended above the water, they seem a divine presence in the world.

Loon w/ Chick

5"W x 3.5"H

Loon w/ head down

5"W x 3.5"H

Sound and Soul of Maine's Lakes

Laughing call, mournful wail at night, graceful shape, unique black and white patterns: the elegant Loon is unforgettable.

Both Loons are doting parents, often carrying the chicks on their backs. The bright red eye helps them see while diving deep.

Maine Coon Cat

3"W x 3"H

The legend that the Maine Coon Cat is a cross between a wildcat and a raccoon was probably born as a typical straight-faced Maine joke.

It must be true, though, that with it's fluffy tail and muff this unusual cat evolved to flourish in our severe Maine winters.

Our own coon cat, so sweet yet a bit wild, definitely knows how decorative she is.

Blue Jay

2"W x 5"H

Known for it's raucous call and it's appetite at the birdfeeder, the Blue Jay is startingly colorful once the leaves drop in the Fall. Like the Chickadee, the Blue Jay stays with us through the long, cold Maine winters.

Maine Bull Moose

3.75"W x 6"H

Maine Moose Family

Bull Moose- 3.75"W x 6"H

Moose Cow- 3.5"W x 4.5"H

Baby Moose- 2"W x 3"H

This Wayne Village Pottery ornament was inspired by a visit from the village moose, who ambled up our driveway to eat lilac buds, munch on the old Christmas tree, and nose around our barn for a while. Looming large past our windows that Sunday morning, she was at once majestic and comical.

The moose evokes the wild spirit of Maine's woods, swamps and lake shores.

Mother Bear and Cub

3.5"W x 3"H

Mother Polar Bear and Cub

3.5"W x 3"H

"...in wildness is the preservation of the World."

- Henry David Thoreau

Bears are revered as a symbol of courage.

The intelligent, resourceful Black Bear is the spirit of the wild deep Maine woods, a place of transformation and restoration.

The beautiful and powerful Polar Bear is now threatened by global warming.

Atlantic Puffin

2.5"W x 4"H

Beloved for it's whimsical clown face, the Puffin is found, in the U.S., only in Maine. A sea bird, it returns to off-shore islands only to nest.

The Puffin was hunted almost to extinction but is now being reestablished in Maine, thanks to the Audubon Society.
