| Nestled between two lakes in the rolling hills of central Maine,
west of Augusta, the state capitol,
Wayne is a
town with a rich history and beautiful scenery.
Many years ago when we often used to drive
between Orono and Bethel, we would always comment that Wayne was
the prettiest town along the way. Little did we know that we
would end up living here. Now celebrating our 30th year in
Wayne, we love it here and are fortunate to have found such a
wonderful place to raise our children and make and sell pottery.
It's quiet here, not much to do, but we
do have the
Wayne
General Store, Tubby's, for wonderful handmade ice cream,
and
Gingerbread Farm, where it's fun to walk in the beautiful
display gardens and buy unusual and hardy perennials.
Our pottery shop and studio is in our
big old barn, attached to the red brick house built by the Swift
family in 1812, on Main Street in the Wayne village. In the
winter we enjoy the snow and frozen lakes, and in the summer the
population swells from around 1000 to over 3000 people as the
beloved "summer people" return as we all enjoy the friendly
people, and the lovely lakes, fields, and forests of Wayne's
natural world.
Named the "prettiest friendly town"
in Northern New England in a recent
Boston Globe article, Wayne is a wonderful place for us to
live and work.
